Known as a season of wonder, Christmas has some interesting details and traditional practices that people find amusing. What are these tidbits and customs that are associated with Christmas aside from greeting family and friends a Merry Christmas?


Fun Christmas Trivia

  • Acquired from the Druids, setting the Yule Log on fire to attract luck is one aspect of the very old 12-day Christmas celebration.
  • ‘Hot cockles’ is a prominent Christmas game from the medieval up to the Victorian period. This game involves one blindfolded player, who will be blown by the other players. The task of the blindfolded player is to name the player who gave the blow.
  • Boar’s head was a traditional Christmas dish back in the Middle Ages. Serving this dish began when a university student got attacked by a bear. To save himself, the student shoved a book containing writings by Aristotle down to the bear’s throat. The bear choked and died and the student went back to his college with a bear’s head. Today, boar's head carol is one of the well-liked Christmas carols.
  • Before the present Christmas puddings, people from all social class get pleasure from a well-seasoned porridge known as Frumenty. This porridge is said to be derived from the legend of Dagda, the harvest god of the Celtics who used Earth’s pleasant things to make porridge.
  • The contemporary beliefs about Father Christmas are commonly associated to either the early Celtic or paganism. The Nature Folk are said to be the elves of Santa Claus whereas one of the pagan deities, the Horned God, is said to be the reindeers.
  • There are towns in the United States that are named after Christmas or Christmas-related practices. These are Christmas, Arizona; Christmas, Florida; Santa Claus, Arizona; Santa Claus, Indiana; and Noel, Missouri.
